The scope of the companion scheme is the quality assessment of stained resin sections that are issued to pathologists for diagnostic purposes. Toluidine Blue, Thionine, and other stains such as Methylene blue, Azure A and basic fuchsin may be utilised. This is not intended for toluidine blue sections that are generated as part of the TEM pathway and as such are not the ‘end point’ of the technique. This would be applicable to all tissue types including but not limited to nerve and muscle.

Rationale
The TEM Semi-Thin Resin Sections scheme assesses archival stained semi thin sections, which have been issued to Pathologists as part of the reporting process. The organisation is free to use any suitable technique to adequately demonstrate the staining method, however the methods must accurately represent the case and reflect the quality of the routine daily work.
Submission
Archival specialist stained sections, from 1 distinct TEM case, from stained resin sections issued for pathologists for diagnostic purposes, as indicated on the delivery letter.
