Mohs’ Procedure is used to treat basal cell carcinoma and other skin tumours, especially on the face, for optimal cosmetic results. The tumour is assessed through a biopsy and removed via micrographic surgery. H&E-stained frozen sections are analysed intra-operatively to ensure complete tumour removal with minimal normal tissue loss. Tumour clearance is confirmed using anatomical maps and measurements. Close collaboration with clinicians ensures accurate diagnosis and reporting for effective treatment.
Rationale
The Mohs Procedure scheme evaluates archival surgical stained sections using two routine staining methods. The first case is requested from any site, and the second from the specified site/ tissue composition in the delivery letter. Slide 1 must show tumor, and slide 2 must be a full-face cryostat section with inked margins for orientation. All slides should accurately represent the case and the quality of routine daily work.
Submission
2 archival stained sections, from 2 distinct Mohs surgery biopsies, as designated on the delivery letter.
