Paraffin wax embedded tissue block
Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E)

Paraffin wax-embedded tissue is commonly used in both specialised and routine Cellular Pathology to create tissue sections for diagnosis. While this method is standard in histological practices, there are numerous variations in fixation, processing, and methodologies, which can impact the quality of tissue section cutting and staining. To ensure the pathologist has the most accurate information for making a precise diagnosis, each of these stages must be performed to the highest standard. The Tissue Diagnostics scheme allows for the registration of 2 assets. Additional assets can be added as part of the subscription process to cover a laboratory’s or organisation’s full range of automation and processing schedules.
Rationale
The Tissue Diagnostics scheme is designed to evaluate the quality of paraffin wax-embedded tissue cassettes in relation to the corresponding H&E stained section, ensuring strong concordance and more informed assessment and feedback. Variability in both fixation and processing techniques can lead to technical challenges in routine practice, affecting both H&E staining and subsequent diagnostic testing. The block and associated slide submitted must accurately represent the case and reflect the quality of work typically performed as part of the daily workload.
Submission
1 Paraffin wax embedded tissue block together with the corresponding H&E stained section from the date indicated on the delivery letter,
